Jack Rivas

Jack Rivas is an artist and educator currently living and working in Brooklyn, NY.  A native of Nicaragua, Jack has been creating art since he was 6 years old.   Soon after his family was forced to leave their home country and moved to the United States as political refugees settling in Louisiana where he spent most of his young adult life.  He completed his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from the University Of Louisiana at Lafayette with a concentration in studio arts in painting and sculpture.   Soon after graduating from Lafayette he was accepted to the Parsons School of Design Fine Arts graduate program in New York City where he completed his Masters Degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in sculpture, performance, video and multi media arts.  During the mid to late ‘90s and soon after graduating, he co-produced and co-directed an experimental TV show on Manhattan Public Access Cable titled “Acid Lollipops” that became a cult hit among the downtown art world in Manhattan.   He has worked and collaborated with world famous artists such as Chryssa, Steve Lyons and Takako Tsuji.   He has exhibited and published his work in New York, Spain, France and Germany.  He has performed in plays, TV and performance art events in New York City.   Also, he has curated and organized art shows for other artists in the city.   During the past 16 years, Mr. Rivas has dedicated his talents to Arts Education in New York City.  He is affiliated with Center For Family Life, a social service agency that provides arts to schools in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.  Currently he teaches interdisciplinary visual arts to Middle and High School students.    Also, he has collaborated with performance artists and social workers as a set designer for over fifty theater productions ranging from works based from literature and original improvisational plays that deal with teenage issues as an integral part of the nationally recognized arts program, Life Lines Community Arts Project. Through his work at CFL, he has become a mentor inspiring several young artists in Brooklyn who want to pursue careers in the visual arts by providing exhibition and assisting with scholarship opportunities in collaboration with Dedalus Foundation and Sunset Park High School. He continues to make and exhibits his own artwork.
